We offer a variety of training sessions covering neurodiverse conditions such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia.
Supporting Autism and Neurodiversity (SAND) is a 5 week basic training course. Each 3 hour session includes a presentation and time for Q & A. The aim is for participants to attend all 5 sessions to build the knowledge required to support their individual(s) or themselves.
The course will be delivered in person and via Zoom, and places can be booked by emailing fiona@carerslink.org.uk. Please include your name, the first 3 letters of your postcode & a very brief bio (e.g. parent of 7 year old ASD boy).
Week 1 is an introduction to the presentation and impacts of neurodiversity, explaining the different conditions and their overlaps.
Week 2 covers Communication – the differences and impacts on communication and practical strategies to support.
Week 3 covers Processing Differences – the differences and impacts of brain diversity and their impacts on function with practical strategies to minimise impact.
Week 4 covers Sensory Differences – understanding the sensory system and the differences common within neurodiversity. The impacts of these an practical strategies to minimise and manage impact.
Week 5 covers Arousal and Behaviour & Getting it Right. It looks at the impact that differences have on arousal levels and at the resulting defensive behaviours.
