Carers Link provides information and support to unpaid carers who live in East Dunbartonshire or care for someone who lives in East Dunbartonshire.

If you look after a family member or friend who cannot manage without your support, you are a carer. You may be “doing what anyone would do”, but we can help you.

You may simply be looking for some information, or you may go on to access advocacy, one-to-one support or our sessions and groups for carers. However large or small your query, we’re here to help. If you would like us to get in touch with you just fill in our self referral form, and we will be in touch.

You can find out more about the difference that Carers Link can make by watching our video – simply click on the button on the left.

No matter who you are or who you care for, Carers Link is here to support you

Who is a carer

Anyone who provides (or intends to provide) care for another person is a carer. The exceptions to this are if the only reason for providing care is that the person is under 18, or if you are caring because you  have a contract or as voluntary work.

You can be caring for someone for any number of hours, and you do not need to be providing a substantial amount of care on a regular basis.

A young carer is any carer who is under the age of 18, or who is 18 or over and still attending school.

Thank you to Nuffield Health MilngavieYoung carers in East Dunbartonshire will have the chance to take part in a summer sports camp thanks to a donation of activities by the children’s services team at Nuffield Health, Milngavie, through Respitality, a Scottish Government supported project. The activities will include football, tennis, badminton, swimming, outdoor hikes, arts and crafts, science experiments and baking ideal for young carers aged 5 to 10 years old. The aim of Respitality is to provide a short vital break for unpaid carers in Scotland when they need it most. This is achieved by connecting carers’ organisations with hospitality, tourism and leisure businesses who are willing to donate a break free of charge. Respitality is delivered locally by Carers Link East Dunbartonshire an approved Respitality Delivery Partner and coordinated nationally by Shared Care Scotland.Hannah Khan, the Children’s Services Manager at Nuffield Health Milngavie said: “We are delighted to support Carers Link and the young carers who do so much for their families. I was a young carer for my mum from the age of 11 and being able to have fun at a summer camp is something that I would have loved. Having had the experience of being a young carer, I understand how important it is to support the wellbeing of children and young people in their caring role and to have a break from caring for a loved one.” Our business partners, fundraisers, volunteers and schools play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of outings and activities for young carers. If your organisation would like to donate an activity or short break through the Respitality project please email enquiry@carerslink.org.uk. ... See MoreSee Less
